Course Objectives:

 

  • To focus on e-commerce including strategy development, competitive advantage, current and emerging technologies, pricing, distribution channels and promotion

  • To cover emerging online technologies, trends and their influence on the electronic commerce marketplace

  • To cover international issues, social networking, mobile commerce, Web 2.0 technologies, and updates on spam, phishing, and identity theft

  • To demonstrate on how fundamental business concepts apply to the world of ecommerce

     

    Course description:

     

    This course shows how fundamental business concepts apply to the world of e-commerce.  With e-commerce continues to have a dramatic impact on virtually every aspect of business and following the Global Economic Crisis, its role is even more critical.  The course equips students with a solid understanding of the dynamics of this fast-paced industry.  It delivers comprehensive coverage of emerging online technologies and trends and their influence on the electronic commerce marketplace.  By detailing how the landscape of online commerce is evolving, the course reflects changes in the economy and how business and society are responding to those changes. Balancing technological issues with the strategic business aspects of successful e-commerce, the course covers international issues, social networking, mobile commerce, Web 2.0 technologies, and updates on spam, phishing, and identity theft.

Course outcomes:

 

Upon finishing this course, the students should have:

  • Able to differentiate the traditional commerce, e-commerce and e-business
  • Expose students to hands-on exercises and projects on business and the Internet.

  • Offers students business application topics such as Internet marketing, advertising, and security.
  • Able to recommend and select some Web-based tools available for e-Commerce.
  • Choose the best solution from various e-Commerce software available in the market.
  • Appraise the security threats of e-commerce.
  • Set up an effective electronic payment system.
  • Evaluate strategies for Marketing, Sales and Promotion.
  • Recommend the usage of Web Auctions, Virtual Communities and Web Portals to solve organization problem.
  • Recommend the suitable Business Plans for implementing e-Commerce.

 

Assessment Strategy:
